Elections & Voter Registration

Elections

Elections in Westport Island take place in June and November at the Old Town Hall on 1217 Main Road. Voting hours depend on whether there is a State/Federal ballot or if the vote is for local issues only.  Preceding the election, voting hours will be posted at the head of the island, at the Town Office, at the Town Hall and on the town website. For elections that include a State/Federal ballot polls are open between 8 am and 8 pm. For elections with local ballots only polls must be open at least 4 hours; the times will be posted.

Registering to Vote

To vote – or to have your signature count on a petition – you must be registered to vote in your town of residence.

When registering to vote, you will need government ID and proof of residency.  If your Westport Island address is on your Maine Driver’s License or State ID, your license/state ID will serve as both.  If not, you will also need proof of residency, e.g.: a current utility bill, a bank statement, a paycheck stub or other official or government document that shows your current address on Westport Island.
