Parental Residency Affidavits for School Tuition Reimbursement

There are no schools located on Westport Island.  Westport is a member of Sheepscot Valley RSU #12, and as a part of RSU #12 gives residents “school choice.”  School choice means that a student whose parents live here can choose to attend any public or private school that will accept him or her.  The Town pays the cost of tuition up to the State-determined, average per-student cost.  Transportation is only provided to specific contracted schools – currently, the Wiscasset School District; as well as Edgecomb Eddy School for pre-K to grade 6; and Boothbay Region High School for 7 to grade 12.  Parents are responsible for providing transportation for their children if they attend schools in other areas.

The Town and RSU #12 require residents to complete an Application and Residency Affidavit to confirm that Westport Island is responsible for paying tuition.  Children must live with their parents on Westport Island or live on the Island with their court-ordered custodial parent or their court-ordered guardian. See the Affidavit for details of supporting documentation required.

Please contact the Town Office if you have any questions.
