Resident Services

Westport Island is a primarily residential island with municipal government services and many state licensing services provided at the Town Office, 6 Fowles Point Road. First Responder Fire and Emergency Medical Services are provided through the Westport Volunteer Fire Department and the Wiscasset Ambulance Service.  Although there are no schools, refuse disposal facilities, libraries or recreational facilities on the island, these services are provided to residents through agreements with other jurisdictions.  If you don't find the information you need, please feel free to call the Town Office (207) 882-8477.

Schools

Westport is a member of Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit #12, and as a part of RSU #12 gives residents “school choice.”  School choice means that a student whose parents live here can choose to attend any public or private school that will accept him or her.  The Town pays the cost of tuition up to the State-determined, average per-student cost.  The Town and RSU #12 require residents to complete an Application and Residency Affidavit to confirm that Westport Island is responsible for paying tuition.

Transportation is only provided to specific contracted schools – currently, the Wiscasset School District; as well as Edgecomb Eddy School for pre-K to grade 6; and Boothbay Region High School for 7 to grade 12.  Parents are responsible for providing transportation for their children if they attend schools in other areas.
